Dennis Conner
About the Artist
Dennis E. Conner is a western and wildlife artist who specializes in sculpting realistic fine art. Growing up in Nebraska on the Missouri River, Dennis developed an early love and appreciation for nature, the outdoors, and the history of the western heritage. It is his hope to tell a three-dimensional story of the life and culture of the people who came before us; or, to share a moment with nature and the animals around us. His recognition and awards in juried shows range from Honorable Mention, Awards of Excellence, People's Choice, to Best of Show. While Dennis is primarily self-taught, he has studied with the "Cowboy Artist of America", Veryl Goodnight, and Lincoln Fox. Now that Dennis has retired from the hospitality industry, he is able to focus entirely on his artwork.
His bronzes and woodcarvings enhance many private, corporate, and public collections throughout the United States. One of his notable commissioned pieces can be found at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport commemorating its 20th anniversary while others can be seen in churches in Wisconsin and New Mexico. Dennis' work was also juried and shown at the Hubbard Museum of the American West in Ruidoso, New Mexico. He has been the featured artist on numerous occasions at Cabela's Outfitters in Kansas City and is always generous with his time in doing weekend demonstrations at art shows, and special events.
In 1995, Dennis began teaching workshops on sculpting the horse, sculpting the human head/bust, and sculpting the bull elk. He is known for his ability to take a student that has never touched clay and instructing them in such a way that their very first effort may be shown with pride.
